Game Preview:
The Grand Rapids/Greenway Lightning are just one win away from playing in their first state championship game. The team standing in the way is the Section 1AA Champion Farmington Tigers. The Farmington Tigers defeated Eagan 1-0 in the quarterfinals behind one of the most amazing goaltending performances the girl's state tournament has ever seen. The Tigers were able to advance to the semi-finals despite being outshot 35-8. The outstanding goaltending performance came from 8th grader Jessica Erchul. Erchul improved her record to 13-2 on the season and recorded her 8th shutout of the year and third of the postseason. Krystal Baumann, a freshman, scored the lone goal for Farmington on a first period breakaway. Baumann made a little head fake and fired the puck past Ms. Goalie, Alyssa Grogan for the eventual game winner. Baumann's goal gave her 34 on the year to go alone with 17 assists from 51 points to overtake the team lead in points. Senior Rachel Ripley has 20 goals and 30 assists from Farmington on the season. The Tigers have 11 players on their team that are in grades 7-9. Grand Rapids/Greenway will look to continue their barrage of shots against Jessica Erchul. The Lightning will need to find a way to bury the puck to avoid allow the cinderella story Tigers to advance to the finals. The winner of this game will face off against the winner of Eden Prairie vs. Cretin-Derham Hall in the finals.
