Grand Rapids vs. Lakeville North
IRA Civic Center, Grand Rapids, MN-1:00 p.m.
12/29/2007
Game Preview:
Grand Rapids will honor their second of back to
back state runner-up finishes on December 29th prior to a game vs. Lakeville
North. The 2007 2nd place banner will be dropped from the rafters of the IRA
Civic Center before the game. Eleven of last years 13 seniors are set to return
to the ice for the tribune. Former manager Brad Dick along with former players
Tim How, Reidar Jensen, Brett Cone, Zach Morse, Eric Glorvigen, Jason Makinen,
Matt Alstad, Ben Cahill, and Kyle Welliver are all planning on attending the
event. Joe Stejskal plans to have his brother, Gabe, stand in for him. Patrick
White is also seeking someone to stand in. As for the game, Grand Rapids will be
attempting to pull over the .500 mark in this one. The two teams faced off last
year in the Hibbing Holiday Tournament. This year, Grand Rapids will not compete
in the tournament and Lakeville North will only play two games in it. This has
been the time each of the last two years where Grand Rapids has seemed to click
as a team. Much like the past two years the team went 1-2 in Edina but was very
competitive. With the festivities and the hockey game, this is a can't miss day
in Grand Rapids.
Last meeting:
Grand Rapids 7, Lakeville North 0 (12/29/2007-Hibbing Tournament) Grand Rapids
outshot Lakeville North 47-20 and Jason Makinen had a hat trick to help Grand
Rapids finish the Hibbing Tournament 3-0. Reidar Jensen and Tim How
combined to make 20 saves for the shutout.
Notes: Sam Sparen and Jack Moore both
scored last season against Lakeville North. Corey Kosak, Tony Palkki, Sam
Rendle, and Grant Prokop all have one assist vs. Lakeville North.
Special Teams: Grand Rapids is 9/36 (25%) on the power play this
season. The penalty kill sits at 84.44% (38/45) this season. The T'Hawks have
still scored two more power play goals then they have allowed.

Grand Rapids scored two goals in the first period against Lakeville North and

four minutes into the game to give the Thunderhawks the 1-0 advantage. Exactly
eleven minutes later, Grant Prokop found the back of the net on a beautiful shot
to make it 2-0 after one period of play from Grand Rapids. John Skrbec would
tally his first goal of the game on the power play in the second period. Tony
Palkki would add a goal of his own just a minute and a half later to make it

Tabaka would allow on the night. John Skrbec added his second goal of the game
